One could ask and make a valid point, then why haven't the phones been developed to make sure they're backwards compatible with the older radios? The phones have changed but the radios have not. When the radios 1st came out, they worked fine with the phones which were available at that time.

Even if the problems could be fixed with software on the radio, the radios don't have Over-The-Air update capabilities like the smartphones. There's a new cellphone revision once a year in comparison. The radios likely haven't changed any hardware configurations since 2005 when it was initially designed. Aside from a few flip phone customers, there isn't anyone on the planet who uses a Smartphone which is 11 years old but that's the problem the radio is faced with. So if Apple breaks it, it's up to the other guys to fix it and take the blame.Ĭlick to expand. The problems with any OEM system is that our JK's came out in 2007. Even with specs which aren't Apple's, Apple establishes their own rules and expects everyone to follow them. I agree with your Apple comments as well. However, the way the bluetooth specs are written, you can show 5 different companies the same spec and get 5 different interpretations and 5 different development implementations. With a good, detailed spec, as long as everyone follows it, these type of problems don't exist.

The part that he obviously doesn't have a background in, is realizing that FCA works with multiple suppliers and categorizing "UConnect" as a single entity is naive. Click to expand. His comments were based upon what he observed, which is valid to a limited viewpoint.
